Through sculpture, comics, puppetry, film, and more, Sophia communicates complex emotions and ideas that are often difficult to express in words. Her work is rooted in introspection and humor, with the belief that laughter and play can be powerful tools for processing difficult emotions. At the heart of Sophia’s practice is a deep sense of witnessing – not only of the world around her, but also of her own internal landscape. Dancing between the fanciful and the existential, she uses exaggerated natural forms that exist in an imagined utopic world she calls a "freak-ology.” A world informed by climate anxiety and queer futurism.
